Shannon M. Gagne I am inspired by transformations in nature. The ritualistic process of creating helps me to be conscious of internal and external changes. My sculptures are meant to capture the cyclical essence of growth and the decomposition of life. My work represents a fusion of things found in nature, such as a growing fetus, a spinal column, a rib cage, fingers, teeth, insects, tree roots, an unraveling fern, or a budding flower. The body of work thematically reflects a family unit and the relationships within. The unpredictability of smoke firing allows the sculpture to take on a life of its own. The forms are children of the mind inspired by the children created by my body. B.F.A. Maryland Institute College of Art M.A.L.S. Wesleyan University Visual Arts Educator: Simsbury, CT. |
